Event: MXGP of Belgium Place: Lommel Belgium Date: August 4, 2018

During qualifying, Kevin Horgmo of the CrayMert team put in the third quickest time during his qualifying group but the track got much rougher for the first EMX250 race which was the last moto of the first day. When the gate dropped for the first moto, Horgmo was sitting in fifth around the first corner but it didn’t take him long to make a move to the front of the pack. The Norwegian moved up to second by the end of the first lap. Horgmo was putting the pressure on Boisrame for the race win but then had a small crash that pushed him back to fourth. He was not happy and battled his way back up to second by the end of the first moto with Maxime Renaux taking the moto win.

You can see Horgmo's crash here. In the second race, Horgmo was able to take the lead at the first corner. The 17-year-old looked really comfortable at the front of the pack the entire moto but then it went wrong with one lap to go when he had a big crash. This meant he would miss out on his first overall victory. The one positive he can take out of the weekend is that he clearly has the speed to win. Dutch rider Freek Van Der Vlist had his best race of the season with a top 10 finish. The FXR third rider who qualified for the finals was Lithuanian rider Dovydas Karka.
